Canery Islands

Las Palmas, Gran Caneria. | Santa Cruz De Tenerife.

Las Palmas, Gran Caneria 6-Apr-05 / 20-Apr-05

Our Arrival in Europe was quite a culture shock. After a few months in Africa we saw a huge contrast when we came to the Canery Islands. As soon as we arrived we could see how different, even the bearth we tied up to felt like a diffent world as shown in this picture.

As part of Spain, we had a chance to test our spanish and learn more.

The highlight for us in Las Palmas was that we took a week off for a break. It was great to have Kathryn's parents come and stay onboard for a week too to see what ship life was like and spend time with us, trevelling the Island of Gran Caneria and seeing some of the activities of the ship.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife. 6-Apr-05 / 20-Apr-05

On arrival to Santa Cruz De Tenefife we were excited to see across the bay the Queen Elizabeth 2! As pictured here in the background next to our captain Dirk.

Trouble Docking On arriving in dock we had a little trouble coming alongside! Dispite the help of tug boats (here pictured alongside) we had a slight collision in to the quayside as we arrived. The ship was manouvered around as we entered the harbour, but as we were coming alongside in reverse the wind blew us slightly off course so that the aft hit the quayside! Trying again we came in forward instead.

The highlights of our time in Tenerife was our Sabbath week. This was a week were the ship was closed to the public for a week and the crews work schedule is reduced to just one day! We had a visiting speaker for the week, Dale Rhoton who was a founding member of OM. We had other fun activities such as games on the quayside and a trip to the animal park Loro parke.
